ANÁLISIS ESTRATIGRÁFICO DE LA FM. VACA MUERTA ENTRE EL SECTOR CENTRO SUR DEL ENGOLFAMIENTO NEUQUINO Y NORTE DE LA DORSAL DE HUINCUL, NEUQUEN, ARGENTINA

The main objective of this work is to present the progress in the characterization of the distribution of the lower units of the Vaca Muerta Formation, informally known as "Cocina" (Kitchen) and Lower Organic, at a semi-regional scale. The analysis integrates stratigraphic and structural aspects and make a comparison against other well-known locations with similar characteristics and levels of interest. The area of interest is located between the Central-Southern part of the Neuquén embayment and the Northern part of the Huincul Ridge. The analysis allowed us to infer the existence of an active depocenter during the deposition of the Quintuco-Vaca Muerta system, which had its greatest expression during the deposition of the Middle and Upper Organic levels. This increase in the accommodation space took place simultaneously with an increase in the sedimentary supply in the SW sector, evidenced by a greater development of geometries and thicknesses of the levels afore mentioned. This depocenter has had an important influence on the geometry of the progradations, developing major inclination angles in the southwest instead of those developed in the east. In this last sector, the Quintuco-Vaca Muerta system progrades farther into the basin center where the depocenter is absent. Also, the analysis showed us that there was a rotation in the prograding direction of the Quintuco-Vaca Muerta system in the western part of the study area. This rotation of the progradational front occurs in the clockwise direction and it's inferred that it could be related to the uplift of the Huincul ridge (sediment supply + depocenter) during the deposition of the studied units, with an early uplift pulse during the deposition of the Middle Organic unit. This increase in sedimentary supply would explain the decrease in TOC% as we move western in this sector of the basin. An additional aspect that would support the hypothesis of an increase in the sedimentary supply is the increase towards the west of the clay content in the mineralogic composition, which also indicates a different source of sedimentary supply
