The Mesa Verde area is located in the south plunge of the productive axis, close to the southwest basin limit. Cuyana is a Triassic failed rift basin, that during the tertiary was affected by compressive tectonics. In this area, several explorational wells were drilled through time without success with different geological criteria, following the discoveries in other areas of the basin during the different exploratory campaigns. This paper shows how after several decades in which many wells were drilled using different geological models, only because of the geoscientist’s perseverance, the Mesa Verde Field was discovered, with oil production from the Rio Blanco formation. This discovery and the new interpretation technologies allowed the development of the field and the continuity of exploration in this area.
