This present work integrates newly acquired biostratigraphic data with vast seismic and stratigraphic information available for the Argentinian Fueguian portion of the Austral (or Magallanes) Basin. The analyzed samples correspond to Cretaceous and Tertiary sequences targeted by different drilling exploration campaigns in the area. Two regional cross-sections, 150 km long, oriented SW-NE and NW-SE were created. These are based on 2D and 3D seismic data (onshore and offshore) and include key wells with lithological, biostratigraphic and well logs information. The work incorporates information from a revised large historical data base and new wells particularly selected for this study. These wells were calibrated onto the seismic volumes to establish a chronostratigraphic framework. Subsequently, biostratigraphic and paleoenvironmental interpretations were associated to the main seismic stratigraphic sequences obtained by detailed interpretation of the reflectors and their seismic terminations. This allowed for the mapped surfaces to be characterized as sequences boundaries (erosive or by-pass surfaces) or flooding events, building a sequence stratigraphic framework to the different evolutive events recorded in the basin. As results from this work, Cretaceous unconformities were defined by sedimentations hiatus and changes in stacking patterns. The unconformable nature of the boundary between the Cretaceous and Tertiary sequences was emphasize, were deposits along this limit vary in age and environment from the SW to NE. Paleocene relics occasionally appear as potential reservoirs located in areas reactivated by an extensional tectonic pulse. The Eocene to Oligocene sedimentation has been defined as mainly marine and two main sequences could be recognized: An Early to Middle prograding Eocene event, where sediment supply rotates clockwise (from SSW-NNE and ending W-E) and a second Late Eocene to Oligocene event, characterized by an important base-level fall and important incisions oriented WSW. This work integrates the latest subsurface date acquired to date through regional schematic cross-sections that can be used as solid bases for regional exploratory studies in the Fueguian Austral Basin.
