520 _aThe Madre de Dios basin is located in the subandean zone of Bolivia and Perú. It is a partially explored basin with scattered wells and partially covered by 2D seismic lines. During the Devonian a thick (> 1000 m) clastic and marine sedimentary sequence filled the basin. That section contains the Tomachi Formation that was described as an excellent source rock. In the basal part of the Tomachi Formation (Frasnian) a 150 m thick section contains TOC > 2%. This section encompasses the highest geochemical values (Hydrogen and Oil Saturation Indexes) near the maximum flooding surface. In the same section, porosity values range between 10 and 12% and water saturation is between 45 and 55%. This section has adequate characteristics to be considered as an unconventional target. However, the same section drilled in the Peruvian sector showed regular properties. To define a prospective play area we propose a facies map following the lithology, geochemical and petrophysical data. Additionally, based on depth and maturity we estimate a play area of with 33.000 km2. The Tomachi in-place resources are substantial. Nevertheless, exists critical aspects to consider as the lack of surface facilities, the absence of road infrastructure and possible surface environmental restrictions.
