520 _aInformation acquired through robotic technology enables tank integrity practices to be fully aligned with commercial requirements without increasing risk. Aboveground Storage Tank (AST) owners and operators face increased shareholder scrutiny to improve risk adjusted economic return through proactive and thorough Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) programs. Quality programs that include tank inspection, repair, and maintenance have historically been developed using a time-based inspection approach to comply with API 653 or EEMUA 159 guidelines in support of regulatory requirements. Robotics are now being used to more proactively offer high quality, compliant internal tank inspections without taking a tank out of service and, therefore, reducing or eliminating requisite health safety and environmental risk or disrupting valuable commercial operations. In this paper we will discuss the evolution in tank integrity practices, the industry trends in tank integrity, the latest in robotic technology for tanks and the challenges in the implementation of robotics in support of tank integrity. We will present our conclusions on the importance of the identification of good actor tanks and its relationship with the identification of right candidate tanks for robotic technology implementation; all within the framework of resources optimization in the elimination of bad actors.
