520 _aThe work includes the Golfo San Jorge area in the Cerro Dragón and Piedra Clavada - Koluel Kaike deposits, which have an area of 3,800 km2, where Pan American Energy develops its hydrocarbon exploitation activities. The objective of the work is the monitoring and monitoring of vegetation through the use of satellite images. To measure and interpret changes in vegetation cover, since 2013, multispectral satellite images have been taken in the study area. The vegetation in its interaction with the electromagnetic energy can be detected by some spectral ranges of the remote sensors. By applying models of Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) on the satellite images, it is possible to measure the quantity, quality and development of the vegetation. With the analysis of the information collected during 5 years it was possible to establish that the presence of vegetation decreases from the SE to the NW of the area under study, and remains at significant levels along canyons and mallines that dissect the different plateaus. In areas where Pan American Energy carried out revegetation tasks, it was possible to establish and verify that these tasks clearly catalyze the plant activity of these areas. It was found that it took 60 years for nature to take vegetation from old abandoned sites (where no sanitation practices were carried out) to cover vegetation values similar to those reached in 10 years in those areas where revegetation tasks were carried out.Remote sensing, added to the network of vegetation plots in the field, forms an important and solid tool to obtain data on the state of vegetation, even in wide and heterogeneous environments such as Patagonia Argentina. The Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) allows us to assess the vigor of the existing vegetation, it is a solid and reliable index for monitoring the evolution of vegetation in the study area. The methodology applied allows to establish the vegetation coverage of the whole operation area and to identify interannual changes and evolution trends at a regional level or in certain areas of interest.
