| 520 | _aLa Calera area, located in the center of the Neuquén Basin, presents high prospectivity in the unconventional shales of Vaca Muerta Fm. The neighboring blocks of Loma Campana and Aguada Pichana have several unconventional wells drilled, with good hydrocarbon productions. Prior to drilling the first unconventional well in La Calera in 2017 several works were performed. Since the well information available was limited (only 5 existing wells in La Calera had reached Base of Vaca Muerta), the use of vintage 3D seismic was proposed to achieve the best possible characterization of Vaca Muerta Fm. The initial steps included seismic reprocessing using an AVO compliant sequence, detailed seismostratigraphic interpretation and a post-stack inversion.Given that the P-impedance derived from the post-stack inversion achieved a high correlation with the well logs, pre-stack inversions were performed too. These type of inversions generate P-impedance, S-impedance and density cubes. These products can be combined using calibrated petrophysical and geomechanical equations to predict more useful properties that characterize unconventional reservoirs, such as TOC, Poisson’s ratio, Young’s modulus, etc. All these derived properties were used to populate a 3D static model of the area that helped to locate and to navigate the first unconventional well. One of the challenges that had to be addressed was that full band seismic inversions require a low frequency model that is built using well logs and horizons. Since there was only one well in the area with S-velocity information, several models were tested and alternative inversions were run and used to manage the uncertainties. Once the vertical pilot well was drilled in 2017 a complete set of logs was run and inversion products could be compared with this new information. This helped understand better the sensitivity of the results and concluded with an updated inversion and 3D static model. | ||
