| 520 | _aPipeline systems are subjected to several threats that can result in the development of a damage that can endanger the integrity of the system, and for which activities related to integrity management are required. These activities should aim at ensuring that all requirements to a safe operation are maintained and, at the same time, the operations costs associated with inspections, repair and shutdown are optimized. The need to keep pipelines operating safely and efficiently during their lifetime is paramount for any operator. Additionally, there is an increasing awareness at both regulatory and public level, and authorities around the world are adopting a more proactive approach as they seek to minimize the risk of human injuries or harm to the environment resulting from pipeline leaks. The utilization of a Recommended Practice (RP) for integrity management of submarine pipeline systems, developed in close co-operation with the industry, puts more focus on the operational phase from the early design, allowing a more optimized inspection / maintenance regime and hence a reduction in operational costs in a pipeline life cycle perspective. In addition, the RP promotes the establishment of a more standardized Pipeline Integrity Management system within and across Operator organizations, allowing for benchmarking and easier sharing of best practice. This paper gives an overview of the recommended practice, DNV RP-F116 /1/ about how to manage the integrity of submarine pipeline systems, updated in 2015, in combination with DNV RP-F113 /2/ for pipeline repair, updated in 2016. These RPs provide the oil and gas industry with a useful tool in an area where a formal guidance and a standard approach is lacking for pipeline integrity management in a lifetime perspective. | ||
