| 520 | _aVaca Muerta, from the seismic cube to geomechanical model The exploration of Vaca Muerta Formation with the purpose of extracting hydrocarbons from shales has taken professionals to think of the exploration concept in a different way. We used to search high areas with seals and good porosities. Now we work on areas in any structural position, with no need of the classic seal and very low porosities. This situation has made engineers use induced fractures to make way for the hydrocarbon drainage. Knowledge of rock geomechanics is fundamental for fracture design, and this is obtained from petrophysicists who have given us specific data of well logs and core samples. The change in concept has made geophysicists adopt new ideas and see seismic data from other angles. The search is now focused on finding sweet spots, which are defined by the organic content, rock fragility, and content of natural fractures, efforts, anisotropy and maturity. Young’s module and Poisson’s ratio are fundamental parameters to understand the geomechanical behavior of the rock. Mentioned data are exact, and with seismic as external attribute, we can expand data in three dimensions, with the aim of giving geologists and engineers information on the behavior of the formation outside the actual well areas. This paper will illustrate the steps applied, from the first observations of the seismic cube at different levels of the Vaca Muerta Formation to the definition of the geomechanical model | ||
