520 _aCronostratigraphic location of Upper Paleozoic units of the Tarija Basin in the light of paleomagnetic data We carried out a magnetostratigraphic and anisotropy of magnetic susceptibility study of late Paleozoic sediments of the Tarija Basin. A continuous section of about 800 m including several sedimentary facies in a decametric scale in the vicinity of the town of San Alberto, located in Bolivia on the border with Argentina was sampled. The paleomagnetic analysis revealed a highly stable component with blocking temperatures above 620 °C. This magnetization is interpreted as a characteristic remanent magnetization, carried by hematite, was acquired during the deposition of sediments and prior to deformation, on the basis of a positive fold test (Enkin, 2003). The presence of reverse polarity magnetizations along the entire profile indicates its deposition and diagenesis during the Kiaman Superchron (319-269 Ma). Toward the to of the sequence the first normal site appears in Ipaguazú Formation allowing time limit within the depositional sequence. We interpreted based on the arrangement of the axes of AMS that deformational fabric was not produced exclusively by the Andic orogenic cycle, but a previous deformation of Gondwanan origin may have occurred in accordance with equivalent neighboring factories found in Paleozoic basins. This ancient strain seems to affect only Cangapi assigned to the Permian Formation, not to Vitiacua Ipaguazú Formations and younger
