The Canadian Association of Oilwell Drilling Contractors (CAODC) expects a total of 13,128 wells to be drilled in 2011, up from 11,350 in 2010. In 2010, Alberta’s petroleum and natural gas land sales netted the province a record C$2.38bn ($2.43bn). By the end of May 2011, totals had already exceeded C$1.74bn, writes Gordon Cope.
