This paper presents job design and results for two shallow wells that were cemented with foamed cement in the northeast platform portion of the Neuquén Basin of Argentina. The two example wells are typical of the 40 wells similarly drilled and cemented in the area. Past efforts to drill and cement wells in the area were thwarted by severe loss of circulation. The lost circulation limited drilling and cementing, which resulted in a large amount of hydrocarbon reserves being left in place. The use of aerated drilling mud and foamed cementing has unlocked these reserves. This paper presents the lessons learned from the operating and service companies’ experiences in the Jaguel Casa de Piedra and El Corcovo fields.
