520 _aTranscripción del abstract original del autor: Supplying both electrical power and heat on-site, gas-fueled cogeneration systems are finding favor for their economic merit, energy-saving features, and high environmental performance. Their installation is anticipated to continue expanding. In Japan, the cumulative installed capacity has rapidly risen over the last ten years, and now reaches 800 MW (in terms of generative capacity) in the service area of Tokyo Gas Co., Ltd. In Japan, cogeneration systems are being installed in office and commercial buildings in urbanized districts with a relatively low demand for heat. There are very deep needs for systems with a high generative efficiency in the 300 – 500 kW class. Because improvement of the efficiency of power generation requires improvement of that of the engine, Tokyo Gas joined with Yanmar Co., Ltd. in the development of a high-efficiency lean-combustion gas engine. The work recently succeeded in developing an engine with a rated output of 350 kW and heat efficiency of 43 %, the highest in this class. This paper describes the approaches related to constituent technology for the purpose of increasing engine efficiency, the specifications for a commercial cogeneration package mounted with this engine, and future development for commercialization.
