The system is used to transit nearly 90% of Russian gas exports to Europe. It works in close interface with the European gas transmission grid and has a substantial transmission volumes increase potential. Ukrtransgas AC, a major Ukrainian gas transmission operator, which controls the entire gas transit, focuses extensively on reliability of supplies to consumers both in Ukraine and abroad. For this purpose, it involves in reconstruction of compressor stations, pipelines, gas distribution and metering stations, and in-tube inspection of pipelines. Gas as environment-friendly fuel displays better consumption growth rate both in Europe and worldwide compared to other fuels. This tendency, in its turn, leads to gas transmission infrastructure expansion. Ukraine, with its transmission potential, plays an important role in assuring Europe's energy security and has capabilities to increase transmission volumes.
