Injecting fuel and oxidant at high velocity induces strong internal recirculations of combustion products, and therefore an important dilution of the combustion air appears. The local volumetric concentration of O2 can reach values between 3 and 15 %. This technique, now implemented on high temperature processes could have important opportunities in other applications (within the next 10 years in Europe). Gaz de France is particularly active on the subject since the past few years. The main goal of its studies is to promote the diffusion of these new burners in France and in Europe, through a better knowledge of the phenomena inherent to this new combustion mode, by developing new design tools to ensure the installation efficiency, and on the heating quality. We will present, in this paper, the main results obtained in the different following fields of action: testing of new burners operating with this principle, collaboration project with Arcelor/IRSID, Stein-Heurtey and the French environmental agency Ademe and others additional activities on the subject. | ||
