Under which conditions it is significant to develop exploration and production in countries having available so little of proved reserves of natural gas that they are not able to cover domestic consumption by their own resources? This question have to be answered also in Slovakia and to show real examples the possibilities of exploration and production of natural gas reserves under relatively complex geological conditions of the West Carpathians is the goal of presented contribution. Apart from geological conditions and technological possibilities of the exploration and production of individual types of reservoirs are in given areas considered from present viewpoint also aspects of economic effectivity.
