In March 2000,deregulation of the power industry enabled retailing of power to extra-high-voltage users (20 kV or higher). In order to launch into the electric power business according to the deregulation, Osaka Gas Co., Ltd. installed a power plant in Senboku Terminal I and began wholesale of power in July 2002. By constructing power plants on the premises of the LNG terminals, Osaka Gas utilizes the existing infrastructure and reduces the costs of construction and operation. This paper describes Osaka Gas' power generation project at the Himeji LNG Terminal, which aims to enhance business competitiveness through maximum use of infrastructure available on the premises; for example, by using LNG's cryogenic energy for gas turbine inlet air cooling. | ||
