In order for us to supply gas consistently, safely and stably, we have central control around the clock of the pressure and flow rate of the gas in supply through our gas pipeline network with an automatic supply control system installed in our Supply Command Center, our disaster-prevention facility. This system plays an important role in taking emergency measures, such as shutting off gas supply by remote controlling on-site governor and valve equipment, in case of heavy damage caused to our gas pipeline network by large-scale earthquake or the like. We have been working on the development of a "backup and training simulation system" a multifunctional system both for improving the emergency responsive abilities of the operators of this system in preparation for disasters and for strengthening the backup function of the system in preparation for troubles in the system. In October 2002, we succeeded in this development. This paper describes the progress in the development of the backup and training simulation system, the outline of the system, the implementation conditions of training utilizing this system, and others.
