520 _aTranscripción del abstract original del autor: All projects for long range transportation of natural gas through pipelines must comply with basic requirements, i.e. diameter of pipeline, number of compressor plants (starting point and on the line), maximum and minimum pressure of pipeline, distance along which fluid is to be transported, and any other technical condition that may arise for safety reasons, environment, etc. However, complying with all listed technical conditions, does not mean that transportation is performed under optimum economic conditions, since there are various degrees of freedom when sizing said project. This occurs because in the mathematical formula, the number of unknown quantities is larger than the equations, thus many solutions are admissible. The one with the lowest transportation cost of gas along the pipeline is sought amongst the infinite solutions. To this end, a mathematical formula is used, which will lead to the parameters necessary to reach the one optimum project – from an economic point of view and which in turn complies with all necessary technical conditions, and is also the simplest solution for practical purposes.
