We evaluate the impacts of this process on natural gas demand since new private investors are installing only natural gas combined cycle plants in order to expand the electric supply. We make use of the LEAP system (Long-range Energy Alternatives Planning-SEI Boston) in order to simulate three scenarios of evolution of the power generation system in Mexico between 2000 and 2025, taking into account the structure of the sector and the technology used by the plants. Forecasts of electricity demand and primary energy involved are thus generated. Impacts on the natural gas supply/demand balance are then discussed. | ||
