520 _aResumen del autor, extraído del trabajo. The aim of this study was to produce a complete integrated 3d geocellular geological model of a major oilfield in the Middle East. The main problems for the modeling were associated with handling very thin zones of high permeability with both a strong vertical and lateral non stationary behaviour. The reservoir is also characterised by the occurrence of fracture swarms. Few wells are cored. A first step was to compute electrofacies from different sets of logs, then to control their reality with the cored data. The second step was then to compute horizontal and vertical proportion curves. Theses curves display a strong sequence stratigraphic control on the heterogeneities and on the Super K. The third step was to build the 3d geocellular model, which was carried out using a combination of deterministic and stochastic techniques. The final aim was to get a model suitable for reservoir simulation and management studies. The results obtained display the strong stratigraphic and fault control on the distribution of physical properties, and provide a very realistic model for the reservoir engineers. The resulting methodology could be extended to other carbonate fields presenting similar geological prop-erties for their characterisation and their modelling. The major contribution has been in the develop-ment of a technique capable of producing a model of complex gelogical behaviour constrained by faults, sequence stratigraphy and diagenesis.
