| 520 | _aIn this work the stress concentration around unlined holes in areas classified as High Temperature (HT) is determined. The thermal stress generated due to the difference between the drilling fluid and the undisturbed formation temperature is evaluated through an axysimmetric Finite Element Model (FEM) employing the Galerkinś method and four nodes quadrilateral elements, using a transient non-linear thermoelastic solution. In addition, the thermal effect is compared with the mechanical effect, induced by the drilling process (excavation and internal pressure), to assess its significance. Moreover, it is shown, through two field cases in HT areas in Brazil, that failure to consider the thermal effect can lead to misjudgments in the evaluation of the potential wellbore stability. | ||
