Online resources: In: Summary: In the present work it is proposed to study in detail the effusive system present in the neogene formations (Rio Mañero and Desencuentro) outcropping in the Alto de San Nicolás, Campo de Talampaya, La Rioja.Previous works, contemplate the sedimentary evolution of this small basin, belonging to the fragmented foreland, including calculations of subsidence of this for the Mio-Pliocene. However, in none of these works is detailed reference made to the pyroclastic sequences, although the lava facies have been dated between 10 and 7 Ma.The presence of these thick pyroclastic sequences implies a new point of study for the evolution of the system, given that the sedimentary load (practically immediate) causes it to evolve in a different way due to changes in transport dynamics.Early Miocene volcanism (La Moradita Formation) implies that this has been a phenomenon associated with the generation of the foreland and its subsequent fragmentation and that it has remained active during the Miocene, as it happened in other regions of the country. The lithostatic charge of these powerful neoclassic volcanic piles could have influenced in the burial the probable mother rocks of hydrocarbons belonging to the Ischichuca and Los Rastros Formations in the Ischigualasto basin and, in this way, have propitiated conditions for a probable generation of hydrocarbons, These materials are sometimes carriers of abundant organic matter. The studies to be carried out include the description and interpretation of the different lithofacies present and, if possible, the architecture of the same, to determine the paleotopography existing during the effusive events, the geometry of the different pyroclastic deposits and their connection with the continental environments. contemporary clastics. As a consequence of this detailed work, it is intended to perform a formal stratigraphic ordering for the study area and determine correlations at the regional level with the contemporary units present in Precordillera and Famatina, mainly
