The Pincheira Exploration area is located in a complex structural zone of the Malargue Fold and Thrust belt. The main features are two large scale anticlines (La Valenciana and Malargüe) generated from the inversion of the Lower Jurassic rift and basement structures respectively. In this position of the basin, the main reservoirs are the Agrio Fm. and the Chachao Fm. which are represented principally by micritic limestones (mudstones-wackestones) and occasionally skeletal limestones (bioclastic packstones) whereas the clastic facies are dominated by calcareous shales. Duplexes and backthrusts are developed in a highly deformed sector between both anticlines. The duplex involves the Mendoza Gr. (Vaca Muerta, Chachao and Agrio Fms.) and their detachment level would be at the base of the Vaca Muerta Fm. The shortening generated by these structures, is resolved as a passive roof structure, forming two backthrust of western vergence. The result obtained by the ray tracing would help to validate the structural models presented, whereas the petroleum system modellling would validate the hydrocarbon generation in the Neogene
