Online resources: In: Summary: El Cerrito block is located 170 km to the northwest of the Río Gallegos City, in the Santa Cruz Province. The production of the area is mainly gas from low permeability reservoirs from the Magallanes Fm. It was discovered in 1996 with the well EC.x-1, but remained uneconomical until 2006 when the M0 reservoir was fractured. Between 2006 and 2008 two appraisal wells were drilled and in 2016-2017 the development of the El Cerrito field started with the drilling of 3 more wells. In the last year, El Cerrito Oeste Field was discovered, now producing gas from M2 sandstones. Both accumulations are mainly stratigraphic and were identified in 3D seismic based on their geometry, amplitude anomaly and AVO Class III response.The M0 reservoir is mainly composed of fine to medium feldespathic lithic sandstones with porosities ranging from 18% to 22% and permeability from 0.01 to 4 mD. It is stratigraphically above the M1 reservoir (Campo Indio main gas reservoir). The depositional geometry of the seismosequence that contains this reservoir is interpreted as an embayment with its maximum thickness in its main axis (NNW-SSE) with the reservoir facies developed in the eastern margin as a basal unit.The M2 Reservoir is interpreted as a prograding sigmoid from the northwest stratigraphically bellow the M0 and M1 cycle. It is a coarsening upward sequence with a sharp top, developing reservoir facies in the upper section, mainly in the eastern portion of the sigmoid. It is a very fine to fine shally feldespathic highly laminated lithic sandstone. Porosity ranges from 15% to 23% and permeability from 0.1 to 1.3 mD.The seismic identification and characterization of these productive units was achieved through detailed seismic reinterpretation, defining a preliminary depositional model and their stratigraphic relation with other hydrocarbon accumulations in the Lower Member of the Magallanes Fm. It was complemented with the identification of seismic anomalies and AVO response analysis.The area is now subjected to a drilling campaign of development and exploratory wells, being the later directed to Magallanes Fm. prospects identified throughout the area.
