This work investigated and analyzed a length of S135 drill pipe that broke durircg pumping from a well that contained hydrogen sulfide (H2S). There was no obvious plastic deformation at the drill pipe fracture. The pipe material met API Specification 5D, but was sensitive to sulfide stress cracking (SSC). The fracture morphology revealed typical H2S stress corrosion cracking and the failure was attributed to SSC.
