The strategic importance of the Mega petroleum and natural gas discoveries in the Pré-Sal, in the Santos offshore Basin Brazil 2000 - 2030
Description: 9 p In: Summary: The Mega discoveries of the petroleum and natural gas (NG) in the Pré-Sal of the Santos Basin are evaluated as the potential to supply the energy demand of the Southeast, South and WestCenter regions in all sectors of the energy uses. The three electricity generation matrices Hydro, Hydrothermo, Thermohydro are considered as electricity supply alternatives to those regions which have 80% of the GDP and 76% of the national total electricity demand, in a geographic area just across those Tupi and Júpiter Pré-Sal Mega discoveries. The self-sufficiency productions of Oil (petroleum) and NG are estimated according to the Mid- Point concept. The self-sufficiency of Oil production will last until the year 2049 for the ROR (Recoverable Original Reserve) hypothesis of 110 Gboe (billion of barrel of oil equivalent) with a profile demand of 3.5 Mbd (million of barrel a day) in 2030 and 5,4 Mbd in the 2049.This situation is very advantageous when related to the decline of the oil production, as shown by the Mid-Point, of the world by the year 2030 ( IEA ). The NG production self-sufficiiency will last untill the year 2050 in the case of the ROR of 80 Gboe hypothesis with a profile demand of 540 Mcmd (million of cubic meter per day) in 2030 and 910 Mcmd in the 2050 year. All the Oil and NG reserves volumes to be discovered accordingly to AAPG 2004 [ 1 ] are underestimated compared to the greater volumes of Oil and NG in the Tupi and Júpiter discoveries . Considering the larger size of Júpiter seismic structure and the thicker net pay as compared to the Tupi 8 Gboe recoverablereserve, the expected Júpiter NG reserve with 90% recover rate is about 3,870 Gcm ) .The Petrobras (80%) and Galp (20%) partner have confirmed the discovery and announced in oct. 2008, that at least a second well is necessary do define the actual size of the total recoverable reserve and the gas/oil ratio. This expected Júpiter recoverable reserve of 3,870 Gcm is large enough to justify financial resource investment to to install LNG (liquefied natural gas) plants to transport by cryogenic ships the LNG to supply all the required vaporization metropolitan sites along the Brazilian coastal line. nd mixed to the Jupiter LNG. The expected abundant offer of NG at Júpiter site to supply the demand for thermo generation of electricity in those Southeast, South and Westcenter regions are fortunate choices avoiding waste of enormous financial resources that can be used for investment in education, security and health in the country, instead of importing unviable hydroelectricity from the Amazonian region.| Current library | Status | Barcode | |
