Risks of natural gas players in formulating clean development mechanism

By: Contributor(s): Description: 13 pDDC classification:
  • CD I249 1 0013788
In: Summary: Transcripción del abstract original del autor: Having considered competitiveness in energy and network business, it is important for natural gas companies to investigate the potentials and risks in Clean Development Mechanism (CDM), complying with the Kyoto commitment. The report includes review on market characteristics of CDM, survey on potentials of CDM in gas industry, and risk management in formulating CDM. Regarding the survey on CDM potentials in gas industry, Natural Gas Vehicle (NGV) options are only examined for in-depth estimation, as we consider the fast growing influence of transportation sector, globally, in greenhouse gas emissions. Further study on this will be followed in next triennium. The conclusions are as follows: - Roles of Asia and EIT in project-based mechanisms are significant as an credit exporting party. - Especially, natural gas vehicle is an option to mitigate greenhouse gas emissions, significantly in Asia and EIT countries. Therefore, gas players are urged to explore the high quality CERs or VERs through natural gas vehicles. - But the key is carbon price. Therefore, it is recommended to mobilize sufficient financial resources and utilize risk management tools.
