Remote supervision and control of underground gas storage facilities of Verbundnetz Gas Aktiengesellschaft

By: Contributor(s): Description: 13 pDDC classification:
  • CD I249 1 0013788
Summary: Transcripción del abstract original del autor: The concept developed for the remote control and monitoring of the underground storage facilities of Verbundnetz Gas AG is presented and explained taking Bernburg underground storage facility as an example. The local process control system used is explained on the basis of the processes implemented and the equipment installed at the facility. The direct interfaces between the process control system and gas systems, especially the level of sensors and actuators, must be seen as a constituent part of the overall system. This system lays the foundations for automated process control and monitoring and therefore also for the remote control of the underground storage facilities. The main components of the safety system, which is superordinate to the process control system, are also described. In the implementation of the project, it was especially important to ensure that remote control did not restrict the flexibility of storage facility operation. These requirements were met by developing a flexible software tool for flow path control. New ground was also broken as regards communication links between the underground storage facilities and the SCADA system at the company's Leipzig headquarters. A high-availability, high-performance process data communication system has been installed.
