It has an extension of around 30,000 km2 and shows a stratigraphy with continuous organic rich units up to 380 m thick. It is possible to identify and develop up to five different landings in one area. Geophysical studies have played a fundamental role in the analysis and evaluation of this stratigraphic complexity. There are many important uses of seismic in the study of this formation: The availability of accurate depth seismic images is fundamental for the landing point definition and geosteering of horizontal wells. Seismic inversion results enable detailed sequential stratigraphic interpretations and prediction of rock properties in large areas. For example, inverted impedances are important for identifying high carbon content spots and proper geomechanical conditions to optimize hydraulic fractures. Microseismic monitoring is a helpful tool to evaluate those fractures. The sensitivity of seismic azimuthal anisotropy to the in situ stress behavior and the presence of natural fractures helps for the definition of DFNs (Discreet Fracture Network) and 4D seismic studies, 3D-3C seismic recording and Digital Acoustic Sensors (DAS) push the limits to understand the shale play. In addition, Machine Learning and geostatistical techniques contribute through sismofacies classification and electrofacies propagations to populate detailed stratigraphic grids on geocelular models.
