In terms of hydrocarbons exploration, this is a new frontier basin, with very little background. There are no seismic records or exploratory wells in these areas. The generating potential is in a siliceous interval with oil stains and shows, belonging to the Upper Permian record of the Paganzo Basin. The basement of the basin would be formed by igneous and metamorphic rocks from the Precambrian to Lower Paleozoic.Over the basement fluvio-lacustrine deposits of Upper Carboniferous age are developed, followed by continental red layers of the Lower and Upper Permian. These sequences mainly consist of ephemeral fluvial-alluvial, aeolian and saline to hypersaline lacustrine deposits. These last sedimentary facies are of interest as potential source rocks by incorporating elements of marine affinity in the top sequences. The Permian deposits are overlaid by sediments of unknown age (Cretaceous?). A thick package of Tertiary sediments, Neogene in age, formed by fluvial-alluvial deposits related to the development of the Andean Orogeny lies discordant in turn. The regional structure is mainly associated to the development of a thick-skin fold and thrust belt with eastern vergence, with buttress in the crystalline basement massifs of the Sierras Pampeanas Noroccidentales.Hydrocarbon exploratory information comes from surface studies consisting of geological and geochemical surveys and detailed sampling; stratigraphic and structural geological mapping, stratigraphic detailed profiles in the column of interest, and mapping on a structural line, representative of the regional deformation of the basin. Samples taken from rocks and oil from outcrops, allowed to make estimations for oleogenetic potential and obtain curves for chemostratigraphic studies in the interval of interest. Surveys of Microbial and Gas prospection allowed to know the existence of thermogenic gases and butanotrophic microbes in soils, which would allow inferring the existence of a potential source rock in the subsoil. With the existing surface information, an initial 1D modeling of generation, migration and entrapment conditions was performed.
