<subfield code="a">In order to be economical, a production of a shale reservoir requires a sufficient contact surface between the wellbore and the formation to compensate for its low permeability. Contact surface is generated by hydraulic fractures during the completion of the well. The growth of hydraulic fractures depends on the geomechanical environment controlled by the mechanical properties of the rock, reservoir pressure and tectonic stresses. However, durinthe development of a field, the production of the wells, and their subsequent effect on the depletion of the reservoir, locally modifies the pore pressure and induces variations in the original stress field. This phenomenon affects the growth of hydraulic fractures, and the production of new wells (“Child” wells) drilled and completed in the vicinity of existing wells (“Parent” wells), and imposes additional restrictions on the drilling development sequence of the field. This work presents a workflow estimating the depletion generated around a horizontal “Parent” well based on an explicit geometry of hydraulic fractures and reservoir simulation, and the impact of that depletion on the stress field. Then the model allows to consider a new “Child” well and evaluate the impact of the variations of the updated stress field on the geometry of the new hydraulic fractures and the new production. The fracture geometry comes from a non-conventional non-planar simulator, the production from a reservoir simulator and the geomechanics from a finite element simulator. The work is applied to horizontal wells with representative proprieties of the Vaca Muerta formation. The proposed methodology allows to evaluate different scenarios of horizontal well spacing, temporary drilling sequence and type of completion to quantify the impact on production from the drilling of a new “Child” well in the vicinity of an existing “Parent” well to maximize returns of the development of a shalefield.</subfield>
