This is accomplished through appropiate fracturing, away from the conventional, with the intensive use of natural and material resources. In order to maximize the chances of success in exploration, it is necessary to know the geomechanical behavior of the rock, which will indicate the most favorable zone for the use of fracturing, or the areas where natural fractures may occur. Microseismic is a tool that will show, among other things, the direction and intensity of the events in the development of the fracture, through the reception of seismic events (microseismic because of their low intensity). These events are generated when fracture treatment penetrates the rock breaking it apart. At that moment,energy is released, generating acoustic waves that start travelling in every direction. Using geophones in wells or on the surface in the proximity of the fracturing areas, we can detect these events, and starting from the arrival time and velocity of the event, we can locate where they were generated. This behavior tied to the geomechanical model, is another tool to help us understand the behavior of unconventional formations. In Agua del Cajón Field, located 20 km West of the city of Neuquén, as the first steps in unconventional exploration of Vaca Muerta Formation, two fractures were carried out in wells that had already been drilled, with the aim of analizing the formation behavior. The fractures were done together with a microseismic study to understand the distribution of the fractures and their relationship to the geomechanical model, assuming that this is a way to understand the behavior of the rest of the field, in order to be able to select drilling sites for future wells.
