The basaltic flows of the Entre Rios and Camiri Basalts in the southern Subandean region were dated by Ar-Ar in different minerals. The new data permitted to disregard previous older Triassic ages that have been obtained by less precise methods, and confirm the Early Jurassic age of the basalts. These basalts covered more than 30,000 square kilometers, which and they indicate the importance of the intra-plate volcanic activity that was associated with the Subandean rift system. Temporal assignment together with their geographical distribution and geochemical characteristics show a strong correlation with the basalts of the Central Atlantic Magmatic Province (CAMP) developed during the Pangea break-up. These relationships confirm the huge extension of this important Large Igneous Province (LIP) that reached the southern part of Bolivia highlighting the importance of this extensional event.
