Barrancas CRI Field, Cuyana Basin This study shows how the geological conceptual model was honored in all stages of the staticdynamic modeling process of an oil reservoir and how the geological interpretation impacted directly in the results of the study. Definition of facies, its related processes and facies associations are the building blocks for an environmental interpretation, that it is used for the geological conceptual model definition. Barrancas formation was interpreted as an alluvial-ephemeral system with both vertical and areal polarities given by variations in the relationship between two main variables, accommodation space and sediment supply. Relationship between allocyclic and autocyclic controls was the key issue for determining the proper correlation scale. The response of the whole system to these variations was reflected in the progradation and retrogradation of the system, giving a strong polarity in the facies distribution from South to North. This was interpreted as a consequence of climatic changes between a semiarid and arid climate. This concept was also supported and validated by trends in production data. The grid construction and the properties population needed to reflect the whole geological framework. This was achieved using the key surfaces between the identified cycles and the faults from seismic interpretation. Facies were grouped from core description into reservoir/non-reservoir by their depositional processes, and then populated into the grid with a polarity based on well data. Porosity and permeability were then populated conditioned to the facies model.
