It is known that Alloy 690 (UNS N06690) has a high susceptibility to stress corrosion cracking (SCC) in the caustic solution containing lead monoxide (PbO). Electrochemical behaviors have been investigated for Alloy 690 in this condition at 300°C. It has been observed in this work that a cathodic treatment affects the polarization curves significantly in this condition, and it has been confirmed with the data obtained by using a pure Pb. The shape of the active peak is changed greatly but the passive current density is not influenced much in the solution containing a high concentration of PbO after this treatment. Results of electrochemical tests will be discussed. Effect of chemical compounds on polarization curves has been tested for Alloy 690. As silicon dioxide (SiO2) concentration increases, both of the critical anodic current density and passive current density decrease ER -
