A microwave-assisted acid hydrolysis pretreatment (MAHP) method has been developed for the enhancement of biogas production from herbal-extraction process residue (HPR). HPR pretreated by combining microwave irradiation and acid resulted in releasing more soluble substances from HPR and making more accessibility of HPR for anaerobic biodigestion in comparison to traditional acid hydrolysis pretreatment (AHP) and microwave-assisted water hydrolysis pretreatment (MWHP). The maximum cumulative biogas production reached 1272 mL after 19 days when the HPR was hydrolyzed by MAHP for 30 min at a H2SO4 concentration of 1.2% (w/w). The present work demonstrated that MAHP was a promising way for improving bioconversion of lignocellulosic wastes to renewable energy ER -
