Based on the pattern of appearance in the seismic section, it is proposed that BSR has three types such as Clear, Possible and Masked in the region. The variety is considered to be related to occurrences and distribution of methane hydrate directly, therefore, confirmation of the methane hydrates through drilling of wells to BSR is necessary to delineate the relationship between the types of BSR and occurrences of methane hydrates. It is also important to identify the thickness of methane hydrate bearing zone by analyzing seismic velocity in very detailed scale. The forthcoming project of multi well drilling down to methane hydrate in the Nankai Trough by JNOC will bring valuable geological information to calibrate the said seismic velocity data with velocity of methane hydrate in subsurface. The integration of these data will make it possible to calculate resources in reliable degree, which is essential for the decision of commercial development of methane hydrates in the very near future ER -
