<subfield code="a">Transcripción del abstract original del autor: This paper covers the transformation of gas market from its birth in 1952 to a fully developed transmission and distribution system supplying gas to over 3.69 million consumers. The areas covered are as follows: ; History of the gas industry of Pakistan stretching over 50 years. Its achievements and problems. ; Change of ownership of the gas companies from private to public sector and its effects on the gas industry. ; Pricing policies over the 45 years of this transformation in the absence of an independent gas regulatory authority and its impact on the gas industry. ; The results of introducing of an effective and investor-friendly Petroleum Policy after a delay of over 40 years. ; The Government’s recognition that the gas industry needs to be privatized to improve the performance of the industry and attract private investment. ; Great opportunities for transnational pipelines for transportation of gas from Turkmenistan, Iran and Qatar to Pakistan and India. The reserves of these three countries equal to 51.34 x 1012 m3 (1813 x 1012 ft3) or 34% of the world's gas reserves. The population of India and Pakistan comprises 20% of the world's population. So there is a great potential market in the region for these huge gas reserves.</subfield>
