Hydrogen management and bottom-of-the-barrel usage are key topics in modern refinery technology. Both topics are solved within one process by the Multi Purpose Gasification "MPG". MPG is a process for the partial oxidation of hydrocarbons producing a synthesis or fuel gas composed mainly of CO and H2. As the name signifies, different hydrocarbon-containing feeds can be gasified: ranging from natural gas, coal oil, heavy refinery residues, asphalts, tars to slurries of coal, petcoke and to chemical wastes. Partial oxidation gasification is advantageously used inside a refinery to convert heavy residues to hydrogen for internal use. In addition syngas for chemical production such as methanol or ammonia and fuelgas for power generation (IGCC) are produced.
