Sarlux (a joint venture between Saras and ENRON) is developing a new Integrated Gasification Combined Cycle (IGCC) plant designed to produce in an environmentally acceptable manner electric power (551 MWe), steam (180 t/h) and hydrogen (40,000 Nm3/h) using high sulphur refinery residuals (TAR, Vacuum Residue and Asphalt) as feedstock. The plant is located inside the Saras refinery in Sarroch, Sardinia island (Italy). The plant has been built by Raggruppamento Temporaneo d'Imprese (RTI) formed by Snamprogetti, General Electric and Nuovo Pignone under a turnkey lump-sum contract. The paper will analyse the following aspects: · IGCC integration with the refinery: benefits and synergism; · IGCC technical description, multiple train configuration and availability considerations; · Environmental aspects: emissions survey, had ling of filter cake, water saving; · Construction issues: schedule, criticality and solutions; · Key operational issues. The information reported in the following pages refer to February 2000. These data will be updated during the Conference ER -
