On the north-eastern platform of the Neuquén basin, two petroleum systems coexist with the Los Molles Formation and the Vaca Muerta Formation as source rocks. Both units generate hydrocarbons that migrate vertically and laterally to the NE and to the SW areas. The hydrocarbons generated in Los Molles Formation migrate through the basal sandstones of the Cuyo Group. The hydrocarbons generated in the Vaca Muerta Formation, migrate through sandy levels of the Tordillo Formation and mainly by limestones of the Loma Montosa Formation. Because migration patterns converge to the same regions, many fields have several mineralized reservoirs and a mixture of hydrocarbons from both petroleum systems
