Online resources: In: Summary: The results of inorganic geochemical analysis performed on cores of Vaca Muerta Formation, at the Rincon de los Sauces area, are presented for first time. From these analysis, the provenance, transport, paleoredox and tectonic environment of Vaca Muerta Formation were interpreted. Background of this type of studies can be found in Spalletti et al. (2014). Integration of both studies reflects differences in the predominant sedimentation mechanisms and conditions, which allow inferring regional trends in the basin. In relation to the composition of the continental crust, the Vaca Muerta Formation shows impoverishment in silica, alumina, sodium, iron and calcium and phosphorus enrichment, while basal samples of this unit are also enriched in magnesium. At the Aguada del Chivato block, Vaca Muerta Formation has more carbonate composition in relation to western positions (giving it a more fragile mechanical character), with sediment origin from acidic and intermediate igneous rocks and without the participation of biogenic silica. The results indicate that deposition of this unit took place in a weakly restricted basin environment, with a marked enrichment of molybdenum with respect to uranium, in a geotectonic framework of an immature continental arc to a mature Islandic arch. Finally, it shows the similarities in the depositional and paleoenvironmental context of the anoxic to the euxinic type of the Vaca Muerta Formation with La Luna Formation at the Maracaibo basin (Colombia-Venezuela).
