Gas compressor stations and air quality snam rete gas experience

Special attention has been paid to environmental factors, concentrating on technology involving dry low-emission (DLE) gas turbines and a significant reduction of nitrogen oxide emissions per unit of gas transmitted has been obtained. To assess the possible correlation between the operation of a gas compressor station and air quality, a study was carried out for air quality monitoring in the area around a compressor station. The environmental impact has been evaluated according to three main criteria: ; analysis of the possible link between operation of the compressor station and nitrogen oxides pollution in the surrounding area; ; comparison between secondary pollution levels in the compressor station area and in neighbouring sites; ; evaluation of oxidative-photochemical pollution. The results have shown that the environmental impact of the compressor station is negligible and that the area surrounding the plant is subjected to pollution from the nearby highway and to occasional pollutant transport episodes from Rome, located 50 Km away. This activity has resulted in the collection of precious and wide environmental data related to a rural area, with positive implications regarding the use of natural gas as a fuel with low environmental impact.
