Transcripción del abstract original del autor: The Dutch gas industry is relatively young, dating from the discovery of the Slochteren gas field in the early 1960s. The Dutch gas infrastructure was developed at a rapid pace and gas is now available virtually everywhere in the Netherlands. Until a few years ago, the Dutch transport and distribution companies saw it as their task and their duty to promote maximum safety at the transport, distribution and consumption levels. Throughout the supply chain, this resulted in an extremely safe gas installation that suffered very few incidents Liberalisation of the energy market is leading to the unbundling of the gas companies and causes limitations in monitoring the safety of the users’ gas installation by the transport and distribution companies. Owners of gas installations are now responsible for monitoring the safety of their installation. Are they ready for their task? Experiences of the Gasunie industrial safety department in monitoring the safety of Industrial gas installations of 450 customers are described in this paper and gives an insight view on the safety and maintenance aspects. Propositions are made how to promote and maintain the safety of industrial gas installations in future.
