Summary: Transcripción del abstract original del autor: From double digit growth in LNG demand in the 1980's through a respectable growth of around 7% during the 1990's, the early part of the 21st Century sees overall LNG demand in Japan growing at less than 4%. Meanwhile, LNG markets are opening up in other parts of East Asia as well as the West Coast USA. Japan currently constitutes over 50% of the global LNG market, but growth in Japan is declining. We believe that the LNG market is at a crossroads in Japan. We see opportunities for a return to significant growth in LNG demand as well as the possibility of a decline in the market. Given the increasing uncertainty in the market, the key question is: How should players in the LNG market in Japan prepare for the next 10-20 years? Before we examine our approach, which we call "Strategic Flexibility", it is important to understand the key drivers of the market that have a range of positive and negative impacts overall LNG demand. This paper examines some of the opportunities and challenges facing LNG in Japan today.
