Transcripción del abstract original del autor: The cost of maintenance work has been repeatedly subjected to critical review. In the past, several studies concerning efficient maintenance have been performed. The first results of these studies led to the introduction of planned preventive maintenance. However, such maintenance is no longer in accordance with current requirements because of the high cost involved. Our investigations have shown that these requirements may be targeted more effectively by a mixture of status-related maintenance, scheduled preventive maintenance and failure-oriented maintenance. The main criteria for maintenance are plant safety and availability. The maintenance strategy for each process and plant is selected by a three-stage method. Scheduled preventive maintenance is now mainly carried out on all safety-relevant components. The maintenance approach adopted is assessed by a controlling system. Examples of the introduction of status-related maintenance are presented. This approach has resulted in further optimization of maintenance work on pressure stations and underground facilities of VNG. Depending on the type of facility concerned, savings of between 5 and 30 % are possible. The process has not yet been completed and must be reviewed at regular intervals.
