Resumen del autor, extraído del trabajo. The flaring of gases in undesirable both environmentally and economically. Moreover, It results in wastage of much needed energy which can be utilized for future generations. Health and safety issues are also liked to gas flaring. Therefore, the issue of flaring has always remained a cause of concern for all in Kuwait Oil Company (KOC) with more attention paid to the issue especially after liberation. In order to alleviate flaring associated problems, serious studies have been conducted. Some on site tests and experiments have also been carried out on oil/gas separation, high/low pressure gas network and reciprocating gas compressors to minimize flaring of different types of produced gases. This paper highlights the different causes of gas flaring and measures taken by KOC in order to overcome these causes and maximize capture of produced gas. These measures have reduced flaring considerably and reduced environmental pollution while made and environmental friendly source of energy available for more efficient use. These measures have also resulted in economic payback to the Company.
