Between 1996 and 2007, Syncrude's owners will spend $8 Billion (Cdn.) in capital to more than double production of light, sweet crude oil from the Athabasca oil sands of Alberta, Canada. This significant capital investment program, which will be executed in a number of stages, will employ the latest technology and know-how in mining, extraction and upgrading, including a number of advancements developed under Syncrude's R&D programs.
