Resumen In the last decade, Vaca Muerta Formation has become a world-class example of an Unconventional reservoir. Globally, the development optimization of these kind of plays imply a continuous progress along the projects Learning Curves. This work presents a summary of the Greenfield evolution of La Calera Field, identifying the main uncertainties existing in each phase of the project and dimensioning its impact on the field performance. Early identification of uncertainties promoted high level empirical tests planning, limiting risks and maximizing profits. La Calera is a 230 km2 unconventional asset operated by Pluspetrol S.A. (in partnership with YPF S.A.) around the embayment sector of the Neuquén basin. The geological characteristics of Vaca Muerta Formation within the block could be summarized as: i) 180 m of net thickness, ii) 4% of average Total Organic Carbon (TOC) of the prospective zone, iii) 1.5% of average thermal maturity (Ro), iv) Kerogen type II, and v) Gas and condensate fluid. Three geological segments were identified in the area based on their seismostratigraphic and petrophysical features: Segment A, with affinity for distal environments; Segment B, distal to prograding environments with proximal influence; and Segment C, proximal prograding environments. Main interest Vaca Muerta interval in the study area is centered on Segments A and B, currently developed through 3 landing levels. Until June, 2022; 3 vertical and 37 horizontal wells were drilled during the Exploration, Pilot and Development phases of the project, allowing the transition from original ideas onto economically profitable development proposals. The Exploratory phase has been accelerated. The numerous drilled conventional wells that already pass through this Formation served as a basis for constraining its extension, being the reservoir properties, type of fluid, and the productive potentiality of the different landings the main uncertainty. Thus, information had to be acquired to optimize the construction and stimulation of future wells. The Pilot phase answered other critical uncertainties, such as the landing levels position, the horizontal wells spacing, the fluids distribution (GOR Map) and the type well production curve. These mentioned variables would latterly support the Development phase, defining the wells stacking, the number of wells per pad, the production forecast, the facilities sizing, the development strategy and the required investment.
